Synninkantajat

SYNNINKANTAJAT dives into the sore history of the Finnish Laestadian movement. It draws a picture of a loving community that tightens its borders when world around starts to flood.

It is the end of the 1970’s in a small Finnish village and the family of 9-year-old Aaron. World around is changing, but this family is safe. This family is protected by God and doesn’t need to be afraid of communism, nuclear weapons or bogey men. Whatever happens, this family is safe. Grandfather Taisto and grandmother Aliisa keep guard – both on their own terms.

At the same time 19-year-old Auroora wrestles with love that doesn’t fit in.

SYNNINKANTAJAT is a beautiful poetic drama about conflicting world views and the effects it has for children in between.

SYNNINKANTAJAT is is a production of Tampere Theatre and based on the success novel of Pauliina Rauhala.
