CAFE CHEQUEVARA – STORY OF A REVOLUTION is a comedy about revolution and hubris of success.
CAFE CHEQUEVARA – STORY OF A REVOLUTION tells the story of three young cafe entrepreneurs – Rosa, Leo and Maj – who get sick of serving people who treat them like shit. Audience enters a space with bakery kitchen, in which two bakers are playing, dancing and baking. Soon their land lord comes in and raises their rent so much the entrepreneurs are facing bankruptcy. They make a plan: They will riot against capitalism by establishing an activist cafe that offers shitty service. A super group is gathered for this mission: Benjamin, Harriett Harmaakettu, Tero “The Greek” Kolonen and Maria “The Pope” Poppanen. Cafeteria becomes a huge success. It starts a global anti-capitalist movement and the revolutionaries get millions in money and fame. Hubris kicks in, an anti-revolution starts to be needed and things get out of hand.
CAFE CHEQUEVARA – STORY OF A REVOLUTION has aesthetics of a cartoon and rhythm of a farce. Characters and set are big, colorful and easy to follow. Sound affects and foley are used as in a cartoon. It is capitalistic entertainment about our capitalist nature. Performance stages the pleasure and flow of achieving something, belonging somewhere.
Play takes place on stage of old revolutionary theatre building, Kallio stage, that used to be the heart of revolutionary theatre in Kallio.
