The Mother was invited to the main program of the Tampere Theatre Festival, in August 2022

The Mother is an intimate close-up of a woman whose identity crumbles piece by piece as her husband is occupied by work, adult children have moved away from home and the days are filled with emptiness. Having time to live for herself is Mother’s worst nightmare. In her absurd play of home, The Mother tries out different strategies to maintain control over her family members. Loaded with tension and dagger-sharp dialogue, the contemporary drama looks at the roles reserved for us in everyday life. Underneath the elegant surface of the performance, there is fear and frustration about letting go of everything familiar. Who am I in the new life situation?
